Board of Supervisors Meeting Recap for December 3, 2024

The Kern County Board of Supervisors met today as scheduled for Tuesday’s December 3, 2024, Board Meeting. Supervisor Phillip Peters (District 1), Supervisor Jeff Flores (District 3), Chairman David Couch (District 4), and Supervisor Leticia Perez (District 5) were in attendance. Meeting Highlights: 

  • Item No. 1 AM session:
  • The Board presented a certificate of recognition honoring the Kern County Commission on Aging for serving seniors in our community in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of this establishment.

  • Item No. 15 AM session:
  • The Board approved a mid-year major maintenance project for the addition of a second Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint lane at the William M. Thomas Terminal to increase the service capacity for passengers in Kern County.

  • Item No. 17 AM session:
  • The Board approved Animal Services accepting a donation from the United Activists for Animal Rights and appropriate unanticipated revenue in the amount of $100,000, to provide spay and neuter of medium and large dogs belonging to low-income members of the public.

  • Item No. 24 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with College Community Services, dba Clarvida, to provide Mobile Crisis Response services in east Kern from December 3, 2024 through June 30, 2025, which was made possible in part thanks to funding from Measure K, Kern County’s one-cent sales tax measure, which is helping to increase vital services in unincorporated areas of Kern County.

  • Item No. 38 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with Flood Bakersfield Ministries Inc., to provide Housing and Disability Advocacy Program services to assist homeless disabled individuals secure permanent housing through June 30, 2025.

  • Item No. 39 AM session:
  • The Board approved a grant agreement between the Library and California State Library for the Zip Books Project, which will help residents better access the Library’s resources and educational services.

  • Item No. 40 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with Garden Pathways, Inc. to provide mentoring and case management services to at-promise youth and youth involved in the juvenile justice system through December of 2027.

  • Item No. 42 AM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement between Public Health and the California Department of Public Health for the High-Impact HIV Prevention and Surveillance program to support HIV surveillance and prevention activities through May of 2029.

  • Item No. 11 PM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with Flood Bakersfield Ministries, Inc. through the State of California Emergency Solutions Grants (ESG) for Street Outreach to assist people at risk of homelessness in Kern County.

  • Items No. 29 – 32 PM session:
  • The Board held a series of protest hearings for cost incurred for various nuisance abatement work throughout unincorporated Kern County.
  • This effort supports the enhancement of quality-of-life for Kern County residents.

  • Item No. 45 PM session:
  • The Board approved agreements with the Arts Council of Kern in the amount of $45,000, Bakersfield Museum of Art in the amount of $45,000, Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra in the amount of $45,000, and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in the amount of $65,000 for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 contributions to support these various activities and programs through June of 2025.

  • Item No. 48 PM session:
  • The Board approved an agreement with The Open Door Network for litter abatement services through December of 2026.

  • Item No. 53 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $500 to the Golden Empire Gleaners and $493 to Wreaths Across America.

  • Item No. 54 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $400 to the Community Action Partnership of Kern, and $400 to the Equine Heart Connection Charity.

  • Item No. 55 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $500 to the Kern High School District Educational Foundation.

  • Item No. 56 PM session:
  • The Board voted to contribute $500 to American Legion Post 26, and $400 to the Equine Heart Connection Charity.

The next Regular Board Meetings are scheduled for December 10, 2024 at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
